about

Longest Year is a "voice" i've wanted to express for many years now but didn't know how. What i hoped would take a few weeks - took over a year; because along the way - something happened. What i WANTED - was to have a batch of songs that expressed true transformation - some sort of change or awakening. And in reality - it's exactly what i got: the courage to tell the real story of how my life has been these past number of years. I'm not saying i "found" my true voice - but i'm a whole lot closer than i ever used to be. And with this project - i feel like the hard work paid off.

This project marks a goal i have had for many years: to offer an album that i feel "proud" of. With Longest Year - i've gotten my wish. I'm very proud of this EP.

These 5 songs would not be possible without the help of the musicians who came along side me - but especially Andrew Goldring - who patiently worked with me - and who's contributions to the overall tone and delivery were invaluable. (thank you andrew). I hope this little project brings you (the listener) many years of inspiration, hope, and the courage to be honest - whatever your story is.

Transplant

a man got into an accident
and he died while i lay in the hospital
why he died - i may never know
but his life is now my own, my own, my own

how do i live like this
with the heart of another man?
how do i live like this?
i may never understand

well, his wife - she gave me a call
and she asked me to go out for a walk
and she cried - as she looked into my eyes
‘cause he was gone now - but, somehow still alive, alive, alive

how do i live like this
with his heart inside my chest
how do i live like this?
how could i be so blessed

well the day - you know it turned as black as night
and his eyes - they were reaching for the sky
why he died - i may never know
but, his life is now my own, my own, my own

how do i live like this
with the heart of another man?
how do i live like this?
i may never understand

how do i live like this
with his heart inside my chest
how do i live like this?
how could i be so blessed
Track Name: Turned Out Like You
Turned Out Like You

turned out like you - turned out like you
all alone with a bottle of wine
drinkin’ ‘em down - one at a time

you never told me it would feel like this (never)
never told me just what i’d miss
but, i’ve packed my bags and i’m moving again
here’s a brand new start with the same old end

turned out like you - turned out like you
all alone - i’ve been losing my mind
watching those i love leave one at a time

you never told me it would feel like this (never)
never told me just what i’d miss
but, i’ve packed my bags and i’m moving again
here’s a brand new start with the same old end

maybe if i showed you how i’m like you
maybe you'd come back - back to me
maybe if i showed you how much i love you
maybe you would love me like i love you

well, she got into the car
raised her tiny voice
and asked
she got into the car
raised her tiny voice
and asked

where you going boy so fast
where you going boy so fast

well, i put my heavy hand
behind her pretty neck
and laughed
i put my heavy hand
behind her pretty neck
and laughed

you know i don’t know the path
you know i don’t know the path

but i look to the left to the right
through the day and through the night
and i want it so bad
yeah, i look to the left to the right
through the day and through the night
and i want it so bad

god knows i don’t know
god knows i don’t know
god knows i don’t know

well, she got into the car
raised her tiny voice

Longest Year

this old house is hot
i never feel the breeze that once would cool
these walls are just a memory now of you
and all i’ve done wrong

the hope we had have died
i wanted you here and by my side
but, suddenly i went and lost my mind
and now you’re gone

i’ve made some bad choices i suppose
this is one of them that has left me alone, and
this has been the longest year of my life
if i had known it would turn out like this
if i had known just how much i’d miss you
this has been the longest year of my life

this old house gets hot
i never feel the breeze that once would cool
these walls are just a memory now of you
and all i’ve done wrong

the hope we had have died
i wanted you here and by my side
but, suddenly i went and lost my mind
and now you’re gone

the sky is more grey and the birds are more black
the sky is more grey and the birds are more black
the sky is more grey and the birds are more black
you don't know how much i want you back and

gave it my best shot
pulled back the string from the bow
steady as she goes
straight as an arrow

well, i lost my mind - never thought we'd be apart
well, i lost my mind - never mean to break your heart

this is how you know
you put your body in the flame
nothing you control
this they called “a test of faith”

well, i lost my mind - never thought we'd be apart
well, i lost my mind - never mean to break your heart

faith can move a notion
but, not if you are in the waves
i loved you by the ocean
but, soon the waves became my grave
