The crushing blow that we all know You wound your friends without a touch When will this end - when is enough enough? Deep underneath our clenching teeth All bound up and full of strife Beneath the skin with His knife Cuz it's the Sculptor's Hand That we can't seem to understand The Carving Knife cut through our plans We could take no more - we cut and ran Unanswered prayer - oh, do we dare Argue with the Creator's Hand Oh answer Him if you can Cuz it's the Sculptor's Hand That we can't seem to understand The Carving Knife cut through our plans We could take no more - we cut and ran Cuz we - we are -prone to lie the moment that we speak We - we are - taught to steal from all who are weak We - we are - a ship of fools about to sink We - we are - so in need we can't even see Cuz we - we are -prone to lie the moment that we speak We - we are - taught to steal from all who are weak We - we are - a ship of fools about to sink We are - filled with Grace right up to the brink

Shine 04:51
In the hope of eternal life There is a struggle and there is much strife, but When you grow weary don't give up the fight Put out your hands and walk to the light, yeah In the middle, yes at the core If you're sitting still you'll see a door, that Leads us all to a better place Where all the guilt is replaced by grace So fall down to your knees Asking for a mercy that you need Reconcile the shame and your grief I know there's difficulty in a gift that's free But, God, for you is waiting patiently Holy Love, Holy Grace, Holy Comfort show your face, on On the sins i know are mine But this dull life never dims your shine This dull life never dims your shine This dull life never dims your . . . Shine down on your son Not because of what i have done Wisdom says that you're the only one That can redeem all the damage that i've done I bring my cares to you and i throw them like confetti in the wind And like a child i will run to you and fall into your loving arms I bring my cares to you and i throw them like confetti in the wind And like a child i will run to you and fall into your loving arms Cuz you know me, you know me, you know me and you understand Cuz you know me, you know me, you know me and you understand So shine down on your son Not because of what i have done Wisdom says that you're the only one Who can redeem all the damage that i've done Who can redeem all the damage that i've done But this dull life never dims your shine This dull life never dims your shine This dull life never dims your shine

Son Of Man 03:01
Help me walk away from this Giv me strength to resist I am only man Son of man, help me out Inside the voices they condemn To head their orders they demand I am full of doubt Help me out, Son of man

Son Of God 03:11
Shut up inside - I am confined By mind i am defined But peace in your eyes - Those eyes on your face Relief from my shame and the fear of disgrace Relief in forgiving - forgiving my sin Insistent self hatred that came from within Son of God i am not the man i hope to be How is it that you find it to love me Son of God, Son of God Choosing grace - the hardest bit Like my old man's shirt - it just doesn't fit But the gift of forgiving - i pray for the most Accepting the hand of the Holy Ghost Cuz grace has come and choose i must To still refuse or choose to trust Son of God i am not the man i hope to be How is it that you find it to love me Son of God i am not the man i hope to be How is it that you find it to love me Son of God, Son of God

about

This is an album of faith - and more specifically - the struggles i was having with it. And next to Longest Year - it is probably my most "well-produced" project (which still isn't saying much). We did the best we could with the tools we had. I recorded this in the winter of 2001 while moving from Seattle, WA to Costa Mesa, CA. I stopped for a week in Salt Lake City, UT and recorded this with my friend John Elliot. I showed up and surprised both him (and myself) by declaring that there would be "no acoustic guitars" on the album. (there's actually one or two). Being a folk musician - i had wanted very badly to break out of a mold i had put myself into. Having never played electric guitar before and having just recently begun practicing the drums - i set out to re-interpret what was often played with a solo acoustic guitar.

I've always liked this little album. It symbolizes bravery and risk during an uncertain time of change for me. It is steeped heavily with christian themes as i was still sorting through my love (and fear) of god - (as i knew god to be). i think it's worth a listen - I hope you enjoy.

about

John Louviere Salt Lake City, Utah

I am a songwriter who has been recording on tapes and old eMacs for going on thirty years. A couple years ago I got the privilege of going into a studio and recording a couple fine sounding albums. The rest are just amateur demos of what I wrote that year. ... more
